Whether it’s Howie Roseman in a heated war-room exchange with a scout, Jets fans confused over their team’s selection or Pat McAfee roasting the Titans, every NFL Draft has a “moment.”
This year’s moment was provided by the Rams brain trust of McVay and GM Les Snead. Video of McVay laughing over the Patriots’ apparent first-round reach selection of UT Chattanooga offensive lineman Cole Strange at No. 29 went viral.

McVay, though, insists that he wasn’t mocking the Patriots and coach Bill Belichick with his laughter, instead saying the message was lost in translation (via Pro Football Talk):
Essentially, McVay was laughing, by his explanation, because he was hoping Strange would be there with the Rams’ first pick of the night in the third round. So, really, he was still fairly incredulous that a player they had expected to be there for Pick No. 104 was taken in the first round, which was seemingly the point of his laughter.
Snead would say that the team would clear the air with Belichick and Strange after the video went viral, making sure there was no ill will between all of them.
As it turns out, the Rams were eyeing offensive line talent, as they selected Wisconsin’s Logan Bruss with their first pick of the night in the third round.
Whatever the case may be, the Patriots pick was certainly … odd.
