Joey Gallo will be added to the Rangers’ roster Tuesday, general manager Jon Daniels told 105.3 The Fan Monday afternoon.
The 21-year-old has never played above Double-A but presumably will step in for Adrian Beltre, who will miss at least two weeks with a thumb injury suffered Sunday.

Like fellow Las Vegas native Kris Bryant, who was called up by the Cubs in mid-April and has been destroying baseballs ever since, Gallo is considered an elite power-hitting prospect. He hit 42 home runs across two levels in the minors last season and is batting .314/.425/.636 with nine homers in 34 games for Double-A Frisco this season.
No one expected him to arrive in the majors this soon, though. Gallo will have to be added to the Rangers’ 40-man roster Tuesday to be activated. But he figures to get regular playing time while Beltre is sidelined; the Rangers wouldn’t call him up or start his service-time clock to let him idle on the bench.
