Ranked Smu Team Larry Brown Devastated By Tourney Snub

The Mustangs hosted a Selection Sunday party and found that the time their name was called was when the analysts listed the first four teams out.

After a brilliant first season with Brown at the helm, many expected SMU to be a lock to make the tournament.

The team was 23-9 overall and 12-6 in the American Athletic Conference, but bad losses to Temple and USF and then an early exit from the AAC Tournament with a loss to Houston damaged the Mustangs' resume.

Others argue that the selection committee gut-checked SMU due to a weak conference and an otherwise unremarkable out-of-conference slate.

The snub even caught oddmakers off-guard.

They were part of the field at the Las Vegas Hotel, but other sites had the Mustangs making the cut.
